What to Teach, to Whom, and How
What: A six week course, presenting theory with practical application, designed to help participants understand children’s development and learning, curriculum and research based teaching methods.
Lectures 1 and 2 on CHILD DEVELOPMENT
Significant milestones in children’s cognitive, social/emotional, language, and motor skills development
Lecture 3 and 4 on LEARNING PROCESSES
How children process information and demonstrate that they have learned
Lecture 5 on LEARNING DIFFICULTIES
Frustration, Anxiety and Tension: How a processing difficulty or a combination of difficulties affect children’s learning
Lecture 6 on INTRODUCTION TO SCHOOL CURRICULUM
Components of a curriculum, methodologies and planning
Lecture 7 and 8 on MATH: THEORY AND PRACTICE
Essential components and scope and sequence of a mathematics program. Examples of the assessment tools and resources for teaching mathematics
Lecture 9, 10 and 11 on READING: THEORY AND PRACTICE
Essential components and scope and sequence of a reading program which ensures progress for every child. Examples of the assessment tools and resources for developing reading
Lecture 12 and 13 on WRITING: THEORY AND PRACTICE
Essential components and scope and sequence of a writing program, which ensures progress for every child. Examples of the assessment tools and resources for developing written language
Lecture 14 on PLANNING FOR EFFECTIVE LEARNING
Creating a healthy learning environment at home and at school---routines, rituals and management
Who: Parents, teachers, and assistant teachers.
When: Twice per week, on Sundays and Tuesdays, 6:30 p.m - 8:30 p.m.
Where: At the LRC Premises.
How much: 2000 EGP for the course (14) lectures
